The opening strains set the scene – the sad tones of a mystic harp call into the dark mists, echoed by low, haunting voices. Then with a rush, comes the full force of the wind, the relentless rhythm compelling the listener on a journey of longing. Geoff Achison features with scorching electric lead guitar.
The last verse is adapted from a poem called "Voice Of The Wind" by Felicia Dorothea Browne, who wrote as Mrs Hemans in the early 19th century. I acknowledge her for the strength and scope of her poetic vision, and for the inspiration I have so often found in her work.
lyrics
Carry me to open sea
Beyond the Seventh Boundary
Fly me high above the border,
'cross the shoreline, carry me
Take me with you when you leave
You move so freely
Lift me into open spaces
Where the touch of you is
Soft against my face
(carry me to my home, my own native land)
Lead me into mountain places
Where the road is clouded
But the Path can still be traced
Take me with you when you go
You go so quickly
Carry me
Oh wind all you voices shout
Oh wind all your voices shout
Through the corridors and highways
Overland, under doorways
Through the dark and Secret Old ways
Through the streets and
Through the new days
Through the ages through the trees
You move in so much fancy
Carry me
Oh Wind all your voices shout
Oh wind all your voices shout
so many voices in thee, oh wind
How many voices are thine?
How many voices
For every scene thy wing over sweeps
Oh you carry a sound and sign
A minstrel wild and strong, oh wind
A spirit like my own
Spirit voices ever near
Carry on my spirit to the one I love
Oh wind carry me back home
